Triathlon and Multi-sport

Our location provides excellent terrain for cycling and running, with several options for open-water and pool based swimming. Train, recover or simply have fun - why not swap your racing steed for a mountain bike, your lightweight racers for some trail shoes and of course, don a wetsuit for some open water swimming.

If you are a competitive athlete then pre-season overload training, especially for running or cycling can be very beneficial for strength and endurance. There are other benefits too and with a resident BTA coach we are happy to help if you need advice on technique, training ideas and routes tailored to your ability and training goals so that you get the most out of your stay in the Pyrenees.

Cycling - Whether you are training for Olympic or Ironman distance, cycling in the Pyrenees will boost your strength and endurance fitness levels to hopefully make a difference to your bike split.

We have a great portfolio of scenic routes on quiet, well-surfaced roads within the higher mountains, rolling foothills or flatter plains to the North. We are happy to advise on suitable routes so you can focus on a specific training emphasis.

Running - We have a good choice of road or off-road running straight from our door - from shorter, easy recovery trails to longer and hillier routes. You can enjoy running at high altitude at the cross country ski station of Nistos where there are miles of alpine tracks, perfect for speed sessions. Alternatively, there are many routes from the summit of our valley at a slightly higher altitude of between 1,755m and 2,155m. For further information on running, click here to visit our running page.

Swimming - There are two great lakes available for open water swimming. Wetsuits are not needed during the summer months.

There are several 25m open air swimming pools in the area - open summer only - or an indoor pool further away where the local triathlon club meet.

Cross Training - January and February is a great time to cross train with x-country skiing or snow shoeing. Ideal for pre-season training to build a stronger base, improve your Vo2 and introducing some fun to refresh your mind. There are several cross country ski stations close to us.

There are many quality cycling, duathlon or triathlon events that could be incorporated into your visit, such as; Val d'Aran International Duathlon, Barousse Bales Cyclosportif, Tourmalet Duathlon, Toulouse Triathlon, etc. Please visit our races and events page for more information.
