Local Races & Events

Many of our guests have incorporated a cyclosportive event into their Pyrenean visit for the experience of it or as part of their training plan.

If you would like to enter any of the following races/ events listed below (or any others not mentioned here), we can assist with race entries and provide logistical support, if required.

To enter most cycling events, it is required that you have a suitable race license such as FFC (British Cycling Federation or other international licenses are not accepted) or provide a medical certificate from your doctor stating that you are fit to compete in such an event.

Trail Running

A trail race in the mountains around Col de Mente. There are two distances: Les Eterlous 14km with 500m of climbing and Les Isards 35km with 1,800m of climbing.

International U23 4 day stage race in the Midi Pyrenees.

Road Cycling Festival

Each year the famous Géant sculpture of Octave Lapize is transported to the summit of the Tourmalet after spending the winter in Bagneres de Bigorre. Cycle in the procession accompanying the Géant to the top of the Tourmalet. This is a free event and anyone can join in.

Trail Running

There is a new format for 2019, with the Verticagire (vertical kilometre) starting in Juzet d'Izaut, over a distance of 3.4km with 1,040m of climbing on the Saturday and then a choice of two routes starting in Aspet: 36km with 2,250m of climbing or 17km with 850m of climbing the following day. Enter just one event or why not race back-to-back, combining the Verticagire with one of the longer distance trail races. Race entry is €25 for the long distance, €17 for the short course, €12 for the Verticagire or €33 for the 36km and Verticagire and €25 for the 17km and Verticagire. Trail Running

A weekend fesitival of running in Val d'Aran. Choose from the 43km Skymarathon with 4,300m of climbing, 26km with 2,500m of climbing, 39km with 2,900m of climbing, 19km with, 200m of climbing or try the 82km Ultra trail Skymarathon stage race (43km on Saturday followed by 39km on Sunday).

Pro Tour Road Race

Formerly La Route du Sud, La Route d'Occitanie is a UCI 4 day stage race around the Midi-Pyrénées.

Ultra-Distance MTB

Take part in the European Ultra-Marathon Championship in Val d'Aran, Spain (30 minutes by car). 213km with 6,200m of climbing/ descending.

Trail Running

Departing Luchon (630m altitude) and finishing at Superbagneres (1,800m altitude), over 5.4km the race includes a vertical kilometre.

Running - Mountain Marathon

A weekend of trail running including the 25km Skyrace, the 3.5km Vertical kilometre, 42km Sky Marathon (the Patou Trail), 20km Tour of the Villages and the 11km Tour of the Villages. Entry cost ranges from €15 to €45 depending on race distance.

Road Cyclosportive

2019 sees a new race format of seven different offerings, including a female only course (83km with 2,048m of climbing) and a dedicated e-bike circuit. Further information, including on-line subscriptions can be found on the race website.

Trail Running

A festival of trail running in the heart of the Pyrenees with 6 distances on offer: the 85km L'Ultra Lat with 5,300m of climbing; the 64km La Route 3404 (this refers to height of Aneto!) with 4,400m of climbing; the 42km 40 Oo-Pyrenees with 2,600m of climbing; the 45km La Venasque with 2,800m of climbing; the 21km la K-Bour with 1,300m of climbing or the 10km La Dika with 500m of climbing or why not enter the Double Challenge 2 x 40k racing La 40 Oo on the Staurday followed by La Venasque the following day. Cyclosportive

A mountainous cyclosportive, starting and finishing just 4km from us at Izaourt. There are two distances on offer - 138km including the Col d'Azet, Col de Peyresourde and Port de Bales, or 117km including Col de Peyresourde and Port de Bales (altitude 1,755m). 10km road race held during the annual Flower Festival in the spa town of Luchon.

Ultra Trail Running

5 Challenging courses and a stage race are available for individuals: the Ultra Trail 220km with 12,500m of climbing, 120km with 7,000m or 80km with 5,000m, 40km with 2,500m and another 40km course with 3,100m of climbing. Alternatively, enter the four stage race held over three days over a distance of 100km with 7,500m of climbing.

Cyclosportive

Starting from Luz-Saint-Saveur, it's straight into the ascent of the Tourmalet. Following the descent, it's over the Hourquette d'Ancizan before taking on the Col de Aspin. The course takes a 2nd ascent of the Tourmalet before a summit finish on the Hautacam. The course covers 165km with 5,500m of climbing. Entry is €80. See race website for online inscriptions.

Mountain TT on road

A mountain time trial starting from the town of Aspet to the summit of Portet d'Aspet. It's 14km long with 626m of climbing.

Starting from the town of Saint Girons, there are 3 courses available: the grand circuit 127km (3,872m climbing), the petite route 99km (2,387m climbing) or "cyclotourist route" 64.5km (1,046m climbing) with an option to take part on an electric bike.
