Local Races & Events
Many of our guests have incorporated a cyclosportive event into their Pyrenean visit for the experience of it or as part of their training plan.
If you would like to enter any of the following races/ events listed below (or any others not mentioned here), we can assist with race entries and provide logistical support, if required.
To enter most cycling events, it is required that you have a suitable race license such as FFC (British Cycling Federation or other international licenses are not accepted) or provide a medical certificate from your doctor stating that you are fit to compete in such an event.
A trail race in the mountains around Col de Mente. There are two distances: Les Eterlous 14km with 500m of climbing and Les Isards 35km with 1,800m of climbing.
International U23 4 day stage race in the Midi Pyrenees.
Each year the famous Géant sculpture of Octave Lapize is transported to the summit of the Tourmalet after spending the winter in Bagneres de Bigorre. Cycle in the procession accompanying the Géant to the top of the Tourmalet. This is a free event and anyone can join in.
There is a choice of two routes: 35km with 2,200m of climbing or 18km with 650m of climbing. Race entry is €20 for the long distance and €15 for the short course. Further details can be found on the race website.
3 Day fesitival of running in Val d'Aran with 5 distances on offer, including a night 1.5km vertical run on 16th, 26km on 17th and a choicec of 9km, 19km or 43km on 18th June..
La Route du Sud is a UCI 4 day stage race around the Midi-Pyrénées. The details of the stage is to be announced shortly.
Cross-country mountain bike raid (17th -19th June) in Val d'Aran, Spain. 218km with 6,200m of climbing/descending.
The 14km, 24km and 42km trail race starts and finishes at the village of Les in Val d'Aran, in Spain (about 30 minutes from us). The trails are not particularly technical but offer some great mountain scenery.
Departing Luchon (630m altitude) and finishing at Superbagneres (1,800m altitude), over 5.4km the race includes a vertical kilometre.
A weekend of trail running including the 16km Trail du Mouscades, the 4.8km Vertical kilometre, 42km Sky Marathon (the Patou Trail) and the 42km Team race. Entry cost ranges from €10 to €60 depending on race distance.
Race distances are: 5km run (120m climbing) starting and finishing in Bagneres de Bigorre; 30km bike (1,100m climbing) ascends the east side of the Col du Tourmalet to finish at the ski station of La Mongie; and 6km out and back run (200m climbing) from La Mongie.
With 5,000 participants, there are 4 courses on offer: 170km (4,314m climbing), 158km (3,588m climbing), 107km (2,645m climbing) and 73km (915m climbing). Entry cost includes a shirt and post race food and is between €48 and €63 depending on distance.
Time trial up the famous TDF climb of Superbagneres. Departs Luchon at 630m to finish at 1,800m altitude at the ski station of Superbagneres.
The 13 July is stage 12 from Pau to finish on the mountain summit of Peyregudes, near the summit of Peyresourde. 214km passing over Col des Ares, Col de Mente, Port de Bales, Col de Peyresourde and final the summit of Peyragudes ski station. It is possible for guests staying with us to visit any one of these mountains to see the riders in the afternoon. We are just 4km from the portion of the stage between the Col de Mente and Port de Bales.
Departing from Saint Lary Soulan. The route is yet to be released. Further details are available on the race web site.
There are three courses on offer: the 73km La 3404 (this refers to height of Aneto!) with 4,500m of climbing; the 42km La Venasque with 2,500m of climbing or the 15km La Revi Sente with 650m of climbing.
Departing from Luchon, there are 3 courses available: 157km with 3,200m climbing, 124km with 2,800m and 69km with 1,700m. Entry fee is 40 Euros.
52km as an individual or relay of 3 people with 3,400m of climbing or 20km with 1,200m of climbing.
A mountainous cyclosportive, starting and finishing just 4km from us at Izaourt. There are two distances on offer - 138km including the Col d'Azet, Col de Peyresourde and Port de Bales, or 117km including Col de Peyresourde and Port de Bales (altitude 1,755m). Trail race starting at Sarp with choice of two distances: 24km or 8km through the Barousse valley.
10km road race held during the annual Flower Festival in the spa town of Luchon.
4 Challenging courses are available for individuals: the Ultra Trail 220km with 13,000m of climbing, 120km with 7,000m or 80km with 5,000m and 40km with 2,500m of climbing. Entries open 14th December. Places are limited.
Starting in Tarbes, there are two courses on offer: grand circuit 120km (1,237m of climbing) or the petit circuit 75km (592m of climbing).
A mountain time trial starting from the town of Aspet to the summit of Portet d'Aspet. It's 14km long with 626m of climbing.
Starting from the town of Saint Girons, there are 3 courses available: the grand circuit 131km (3,110m climbing), the petite route 100km (2,374m climbing) or "cyclotourist route" 47km (898m climbing).
16.5km cross-country mountain bike race departing St Aventin, near the ski town of Luchon to finish on a big climb at the high altitude Lake of Lac d'Oô. There is 750m of climbing and the course record, set by current world champion Julien Absalon is 58 minutes, 36 seconds.
